Meläg won some awards

It was 3 years ago since my last post which I talked about my book, Meläg, being published. I was thrilled back then when I realized that my stories about a humble little imaginary town was about to turn into a physical copy.

And it was surreal that months after it was published it was being recognized by book critiques and won the 2017 National Book Awards for Graphic Literature, 2017 Komikon Best Graphic Novel, 2018 National Children's Book Awards, Best Reads for Kids. Not to mention some stories are being used as part of school textbooks and some were made in to an animation.

So yeah, I haven't posted anything after 3 years because until now I am still in disbelief.

Ang Kahon + PIKO: Anthology of Comics for Children

Last year, I was invited by Josel Nicolas, a good friend and a fellow artist, to contribute for his project PIKO: an Anthology of Comics for Children published in the Philippines by Anino Comics, an imprint of Adarna House Publishing.  You can purchased PIKO online at Adarna House website.

And so I came up with Ang Kahon (The Box).  I already had the story in my mind for quite some time now.  Originally, Ang Kahon is a project I've been planning for a short cut-out paper animation like my old project called "When I was a Bata". Maybe next time. :)

Here is a film version of Ang Kahon. First shown on the night of Chamtamaria's 8th Reading Komiks (Anino edition) at Uno Morato, April 19, 2015. Since today is the initial release of PIKO plus it's Free Comic Book Day, I've decided to share this as well.

(Apologies for the bad audio. While editing this, my computer was dying on me.) I still think it's kinda weird hearing my voice doing the narration, specially when it is intentionally conceived as a silent comics. Nevertheless, hope you'll enjoy.

(Special thanks to: Josel Nicolas, Rob Cham, Carljoe Javier, Adam David, Anino Comics, Uno Morato, and to all the contributors)

Help for Nepal

The world is in mourning for all the citizens of Nepal due to Saturday's devastating 7.8 magnitude earthquake. As of today, April 27, 2015, at least 4,400 people were confirmed dead and 8,000 injured. It is so sad that while nearly a million Nepalese children crucially need assistance, humanitarian workers say medical supplies are reported to be in short supply.

Making Borderline Event No. 013015

Here's a bunch of images I took while making the new piece for Borderline. You may visit the BORDERLINE page to see the finished piece and some other more.

I usually start with a quick drawing on my 5 x 7 sketchbook.

Kneaded eraser is useful, not just for erasing but also for making small models whenever I needed one.
